Electric Bike Covers

SCS recently manufactured a small bike cover to fit so a pair of electric bikes could neatly be mounted onto the back of a transit van. We’ve all seen the standard vehicle bike racks but their biggest problem, a soggy seat when you get your location. Our customer is the proud owner of some brilliant electric bikes, which offer that little extra boost when your legs tire up the large climbs of Derbyshire. It was decided these brand new bikes…

SCS Core Fabrics

SCS work with a diverse range of materials and occasionally work with fabrics for specialist orders. This post will guide you through our 3 staple fabrics and some of the reasons why they are significant to what we do! Nylon One of the most popular synthetic materials around with a wide range of applications. The fabric is lightweight and suitable for outdoor use. These two qualities make the fabric ideal for equipment covers, tent fly sheets and security (night sheets)….

Union Jack Windscreen Shade

Further to our last blog post we have recently manufactured a wonderfully patriotic version of the windscreen covers. The Union Jack shade oozes characters and is great fun as well as ensuring the inside of the camper-van is protected from the sun. These windscreen shades fit beautifully on VW camper vans which is why the Union Jack design seen here features the VW logo in the top corner. Volkswagen are still a bit of a market leader in the camper-van industry…

Bespoke Barge Cover

Here at SCS we get some fairly unusual and often tricky items to make covers for and this one was no exception. A few months ago we manufactured a barge cover to protect the items it transports. The barge in question already had a sturdy metal frame which was at an appropriate height for a barge cover to be fitted. Although the frame made the job slightly easier for us it did result in some meticulous measuring to ensure…

Market Stall Covers for High Street Chain Fat Face

This month Specialised Canvas were involved in the beginnings of the Fat Face Christmas Campaign. The campaign took us to a snowy scene with beautiful market stalls displaying the latest of Fat Face’s autumn/winter fashion collection. The high street chain used a selection of solid wooden structures and more basic stands requiring a market stall style canopy top. The canopies is where we stepped in, we managed to successfully manufacture eleven bespoke canopies to fit these unique display stands. The…

Shade Sail Solution at Local Primary School

A Sheffield based school set us a bit of a challenge ahead of the summer months. Mylnhurst Primary School required a covered space in a wooded area, but were keen not to damage the environment at the same time. Large structures weren’t going to be an option so the team set to work creating a shade sail. The beauty of the shade sail solution is we were able to use the surrounding to mount a cover opposed to adding new…

Charing Cross Railway Bridge Covers

A pair of bespoke specialised canvas services covers were used to help out in vital repairs to the Charing Cross railway bridge (otherwise known as Hungerford Bridge). The covers helped to create a secure platform for engineers to safely complete the required works. Above ground commuters and travellers were able to continue their days as usual, making the repairs an even greater success. A state of the art support vessel for marine construction, repair and maintenance work was able to…

Protecting the Local Ales

Mr Mick Arnold approached us with this challenging vehicle cover job due to the expertise of the specialised canvas department. Mick’s problem was fairly common – needing to keep his cargo dry whilst in transit. However the vehicle and the load were something a little more special! The truck is a huge, impressive 1956 Chevrolet Stepside Pickup, which was requiring a full vehicle cover. This had been imported in March this year from an owner in Colorado, USA. The aim…
