Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Made-to-measure canopy cover

The Client

Opened in April 2009, Yorkshire Wildlife Park is the home of more than 400 animals and over 70 species of animal. Built on a former riding school and farm, Yorkshire Wildlife Park is a dynamic centre for conservation and welfare near Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

As a proud member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) and the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), the 260-acre site is the home of beloved animals including lions, tigers, polar bears and more.

Welcoming more than 300,000 visitors per year, the popular attraction boasts a mission of promoting a wider understanding of the natural world and inspiring generations to support and protect the world around them.

The Brief

As the UK entered the next stage of leaving lockdown, Yorkshire Wildlife Park was excited to reopen its doors in April 2021 and welcome back visitors of all ages. However, the canopy which covered the entrance of one of the cafes had disintegrated, and the original supplier had ceased trading.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park needed a custom-made canopy that could fit the existing structure at the entrance to the Tsavo Bakehouse. The popular hospitality venue at the park is only a short walk from the Painted Dog and Baboon reserves so the canvas product needed to retain its colour scheme and continue the East African design.

With specific measurements and aesthetic requirements, the location also required a guarantee of sustainable and durable materials to ensure a quality product that would stand the test of time as well as the South Yorkshire weather.
